My name is Peter Gbelia, executive director of Empowerment Society International (ESI) and avid football fan. ESI is recruiting soccer teams around the country to co-sponsor soccer teams in rural African villages and other developing countries. Our program is called the Development Through Football Program (DTFP). Your team can provide as little or a much support as you decide and will be matched to a youth team in small urban or rural community.
How the program works: Your team makes a written commitment to join our cause by sending me an email: execdir@empowermentsociety.com. The program will begin in the fall of 2010. Your team will be matched to a youth soccer program in a developing country and that team’s profile and needs assessment will be published online at www.empowermentsociety.com under tab DTFP (by the summer of 2010). In the fall of 2010, ESI will collect the soccer equipment and supplies you’ve gathered for your team and or monetary contribution to purchase equipment locally. ESI and corporate sponsors will provide funds to ship equipment and supplies to the rural villages and their progress will be showcased on the website.
DTFP is a local education program that will establish sports and recreation programs in developing countries, starting with Liberia, and ties the participation to education. The children involved in the program must go to school, study, and get good grades. ESI partners with the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Liberian Football Association, and local schools to create a healthy environment for children to learn and play sports!
Please consider making your commitment today to help make education through football a reality in these very poor and rural communities. Thank you and please feel free to call me personally to discuss the program in detail. Thank you,
Sincerely,
Peter Adolphus Gbelia, Jr
